Bluegrass, old-time, and trad music in Bangkok, from informal night-market jams to packed festival nights with visiting players from around the world.
Our Story
It started at a vintage shop in Bangkok's Train Night Market. A few informal jams slowly became a regular community. The name "underground" stuck because bluegrass is still almost unknown in Thailand.
We kept going through rooftop jams during COVID, the Bluegrass Brewery Project at Bangkok craft breweries, and online jams with musicians overseas. Bangkok brings visiting players through town often, and the local crew keeps the music going week after week.
In 2024, we hosted the first South Eastern Old Time Gathering, Bangkok's first festival dedicated to bluegrass, old-time, and Irish trad. In 2026, Bangkok Banjo Fest packed the Royal Oak Pub for a sold-out night headlined by Japanese banjo legend Takumi Kodera. We organize sessions, shows, and special events. What’s Next
The big nights are fun, but the jam is still the center of it: informal, welcoming, and open to pickers, singers, listeners, and first-timers.
The original Bluegrass Underground Bangkok jam happens at Prawit "Wit" Chanay's vintage shop inside the Rod Fai (Train) Night Market. Bring your instrument or just come listen. All levels welcome.
