From a Night Market Jam to a Community
It started at a vintage shop in Bangkok's Train Night Market. A few informal jams slowly became a regular community. The name "underground" stuck because bluegrass is still almost unknown in Thailand.
We kept going through rooftop jams during COVID, the Bluegrass Brewery Project at Bangkok craft breweries, and online jams with musicians overseas. Bangkok brings visiting players through town often, and the local crew keeps the music going regularly.
In 2025, we hosted the first South Eastern Old Time Gathering, Bangkok's first festival dedicated to bluegrass, old-time, and Irish trad. In 2026, Bangkok Banjo Fest packed the Royal Oak Pub for a sold-out night headlined by Japanese banjo legend Takumi Kodera. In October 2026, Southeastern Gathering returns for six days of workshops, jams, and acoustic music at Public House. We organize sessions, shows, and special events.
